Warner Bros. Tracks from 1948-49Released for the VERY FIRST TIME;TCM Sets Doris Day Film Fest for September
On September 15, the Turner Classic Movies Music/Rhino MovieMusic soundtrack partnership premieres IT'S MAGIC: DORIS DAY'S EARLY YEARSAT WARNER BROS., a new audio CD featuring musical selections sung byAmerica's sweetheart in three films for the studio - Romance On The HighSeas (1948), My Dream Is Yours (1949), and It's A Great Feeling (1949).
And to help celebrate, the Turner Classic Movies channel (TCM) willbroadcast those three films in their entirety in September (exact date tobe announced shortly; check local listings for times).
Of the 17 performances on IT'S MAGIC: DORIS DAY'S EARLY YEARS AT WARNERBROS., 15 are previously unreleased. The only two previously issued are"It's Magic" - the original motion picture recording of the song that madeher an international star - and the Main Title medley from Romance On TheHigh Seas.
Miss Day sings material by Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne, Harry Warren, RalphBlane, and Al Dubin, with backing from the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestraconducted by Ray Heindorf, The Page-Cavanaugh Trio, Oscar Levant, The PiedPipers, and Jack Carson & Mel Blanc (as Bugs Bunny & Tweety).
Among the few who made it from big band singer (with Les Brown) to majormovie star with ease and longevity, Miss Day (born April 3, 1924) arrivedat Warner Bros. in spring 1947. But when these three films hit theaters, her fans couldn't buy these performances on record. (Under contract withColumbia Records, she did re-record a few of these songs, but her studiobacking paled in comparison to the mighty Warner Bros. Orchestra). WarnerBros. itself was still 10 years away from entering the record business. Now, 50 years later, Turner/Rhino at last is able make these soundtrackperformances available on disc for the very first time.
