The Elektra Entertainment Group and Columbia/TriStar Pictures have teamed up to create Can't Hardly Wait, a coming-of-age soundtrack to be released just in time for summer. The soundtrack brings together some of the hottest stars in modern rock and hip hop, joined by some new artists who put their own stamp on the LP, such as the playful hip hop mayhem of Brougham, and the fuzzy dreamscapes from the British trio Feeder, who follow up the splash they've already made in England with the breezy "High." Can't Hardly Wait is an eclectic assault on the senses destined to capture this year's special brew of teen angst and percolating grooves. The LP features cuts from a diverse array of artists such as recent Bammie Award winners Third Eye Blind, hip hop sensation Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott' the explosive' chart-topping Smash Mouth' and rap legend Busta Rhymes' as well as Matthew Sweet' Parliament' Run DMC' and more.
In the tradition of teen movie classics such as Sixteen Candles and Dazed and Confused' the film unravels over the course of a graduation party weekend' following the story of a shy boy' played by Ethan Embry (That Thing You Do) who must dodge jocks' stoners and nerds to profess his never-ending love to the high school beauty' played by Jennifer Love Hewitt (Party Of Five' I Know What You Did Last Summer). The movie features some of Hollywood's newest stars' including Jenna Elfman' (Dharma & Greg' Krippendorf's Tribe) Jerry O' Connell (Scream 2) and Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina The Teenage Witch). Can't Hardly Wait was written and directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (A Very Brady Sequel).
Among the soundtrack's highlights are a remake of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' classic' "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby'" done over by the ska-popping noizemakers' Smash Mouth. The Smash Mouth tune and Feeder's "High" will be the first two singles and videos released off the LP. The movie's unforgettable title track is offered up by Minnesota post-punk legends The Replacements' and a destined-to-be-classic gem is also included from multi-platinum San Francisco band Third Eye Blind' the explosive "Graduate." The song will surely top Senior Class playlists throughout America's high schools this spring.
The soundtrack is scheduled to be released on May 19th with the movie Can't Hardly Wait due to hit theaters on June 12th.
