HBO Sports presents an exciting twin bill of world title action when WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: KEITH MULLINGS VS. DAVIDE CIARLANTE AND VINCE PHILLIPS VS. ALFONSO SANCHEZ is seen SATURDAY, MARCH 14 (10:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. MT/7:00 p.m. PT), from the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ. The Oscar De La Hoya-Patrick Charpentier world welterweight title fight, originally part of the March 14 doubleheader, has been postponed due to a De La Hoya wrist injury .
"Injuries scramble schedules, but we are delighted to showcase world champions Keith Mullings and Vince Phillips on WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING," said Kery Davis, director of programming, HBO Sports. "We're looking forward to two interesting and highly competitive prizefights on March 14 in Atlantic City."
The HBO Sports broadcast team of Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and George Foreman will be ringside for both fights, which will be closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish language on HBO en Español.
In the main event, world junior middleweight champ Keith Mullings (15-4-1, 10 KOs), from Brooklyn, faces the undefeated #1-ranked contender, Italy's Davide Ciarlante (23-0, 13 KOs), in a scheduled 12-round title match. Unknown a year ago, Army veteran Mullings stunned many by knocking out four-time world champion Terry Norris last Dec. 6 in Atlantic City.
In the evening's co-feature, red-hot "Cool" Vince Phillips (38-3, 27 KOs) from Las Vegas puts his world junior welterweight championship belt on the line against top-ranked Alfonso Sanchez (18-1, 16 KOs) of San Pedro, Mexico, in a scheduled 12-round match. Turning his life and career around when he beat his addiction to drugs, Phillips stunned the boxing world by stripping highly regarded Kostya Tszyu of the junior welterweight title in an electrifying "HBO Boxing After Dark" presentation last May 31. Phillips has chalked up two knockout victories since capturing the world title. Sanchez, who may have the best knockout power in the division, poses a difficult challenge for Phillips.
