New York, NY - Home Box Office announced today that it will launch HBO Latino, a new Spanish-language channel, on November 1. Designed to reflect the diversity of Latino culture in the U.S., HBO Latino will offer U.S. premieres of Spanish-language films and documentaries from North America, Latin America, and Spain, as well as original short-form programming and music videos featuring today's biggest Latino artists. The channel will also feature the best Hollywood movies and original programming from HBO's main service and, for the first time, broadcast live ringside Spanish commentary of "World Championship Boxing." HBO Latino is the newest addition to HBO The Works, the network's multiplex line-up, and will be available via cable systems and satellite distributors in major cities that are home to large Latino communities such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, San Antonio, Phoenix, Houston, San Diego and El Paso. "Latino viewers are an important and growing part of our audience," said Bernadette Aulestia, director, HBO Latino. "With this service we hope to not only provide an even greater level of entertainment to our Spanish-speaking viewer, but we are committed to doing so with an identity that is reflective of today's U.S. Latino population." Bringing the channel to life will be short-form interstitial programming that spotlights contemporary Latino lifestyles nationwide. These programs will originate from selected U.S. cities to capture the multicultural Hispanic community through segments on art, music, film, celebrities, current issues, local entertainment news and human interest stories. A core group of Spanish-speaking on-air personalities will represent different Latino regions across the country. Highlights include: U.S. premieres of CIEN AÑOS DE PERDON, ESMERALDA VIENE POR LA NOCHE and ¿QUIEN DIABLOS ES JULIETTE? Exclusive interviews with top Latino celebrities like Paulina Rubio, Marc Anthony, and Jimmy Smits Coverage of the 1st Annual Latin Grammy(r) Awards Music videos featuring Latino artists such as La Ley, Luis Miguel and Marc Anthony Re-broadcast of the sensational HBO concert special, MARC ANTHONY: THE CONCERT FROM MADISON SQUARE GARDEN.
HBO will celebrate the launch of HBO Latino with a campaign, "Ciudad Caliente," that will showcase what's hot in major U.S. Latino cities - from music to food, to festivals and movie stars. The promotion will focus on local events featuring music performances and video showcases; a poll where city natives can vote for their favorite Latino artists, restaurants and nightspots; as well as taping of personal testimonials by consumers talking about their hometowns. The results of the poll will be posted online at www.HBO.com and the testimonials will be showcased on HBO Latino. The campaign also includes a national sweepstakes giving new subscribers a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to a popular U.S. city rich in Latino culture, and prizes including dinners at local Latino restaurants and tickets to a special event. Home Box Office is the premium television programming division of Time Warner Entertainment Company, L.P., providing two 24-hour premium television services, HBO and Cinemax. Together, both networks reach nearly 36 million subscribers in the United States via cable and satellite delivery.
