Time Inc.'s Healthmagazine Announces Rate Base Increase to 1.3 Million Effective January 2000; Magazine is Poised for Continued Growth as One of America's Largest Targeted Lifestyle Titles

Time Inc.'s HEALTH magazine will raise its circulation rate base 18%, from 1.1 to 1.3 million, effective January 2000. The magazine will deliver a total audience of more than 7 million readers, becoming one of the country's largest targeted lifestyle titles. The announcement was made by Mary Morgan, vp/publisher.

HEALTH has experienced exceptional circulation growth over the past four years, including four consecutive rate base increases. Single copy sales during this period rose 126%, a clear indication of the magazine's vitality and reader response to the editorial product. Last year, the magazine received the Circulation Excellence Award from Circulation Management for achieving "continual, profitable circulation growth." The rate base announcement follows HEALTH's recent acquisition of American Health's trademark and circulation assets.

Ms. Morgan says, "The acquisition of American Health's subscriber list brought us a new group of readers who are in tune with our demographic target, and represent a highly desirable audience for a wide range of advertisers. HEALTH's unique editorial mix of equal parts beauty/fitness, health/wellness, and food/nutrition, will attract an even larger audience as the number of women who desire this lifestyle information continues to grows."

HEALTH has seen tremendous growth in advertising pages in 1999, with significant increases in the beauty, online, alternatives and supplements, and lifestyle categories. Year-to-date through October, the magazine is up 24%, carrying 562 ad pages versus 453 in 1998. New advertisers this year include: Clinique, Nivea, Neutrogena, Clairol, Almay, Ryka, Russell Athletics, Healthshop.com, Mothernature.com, E-Nutrition.com, Viactiv, Centrum, Promensil, Quantera, Kodak, Marquis Spas, and Olive Garden.

Time Inc.'s HEALTH magazine, a four-time National Magazine Award winner, is published nine times a year.
