First Service to Offer Convenient Access to Web's Best Free Music Downloads in Every Genre

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 1, 1999 -- America Online's Spinner.com, the first and largest Internet music service, today announced the launch of a new Music Download Service, including the Playlist-To-Go feature, offering convenient access to the Web's best music downloads in every genre. The launch of Playlist-To-Go extends Spinner.com's leadership into the growing field of online music distribution. Available today at www.spinner.com/musicdownloads, Spinner's Playlist-To-Go is a convenient way for consumers to grow their music collections, listen to the "best of the Web," or get new music for their portable music devices. The new service highlights the best, free downloads of songs from a full range of artists and record labels, organizes them by genre into playlists, and updates them daily. Registered Spinner users will be able to customize the playlists, conveniently download and play the music, and save up to ten songs. In addition to Playlist-To-Go, Spinner.com also is adding daily download links to its offering. Here, users can access frequently updated lists of the best free downloadable music available in their favorite musical genres. Spinner will also provide information on the artists featured on these links. Spinner's Music Download Service also offers a custom Music Download Player created by Nullsoft, maker of the popular Winamp online music player, so that users can easily listen to music downloaded from Playlist-To-Go. Playlist-To-Go downloads are guaranteed to play on most portable MP3 players. Ted Leonsis, President of AOL Interactive Properties, said: "AOL's Spinner.com is continuing to drive the fast-growing online music phenomenon. Spinner.com's Playlist-To-Go is the first service to find and deliver the Web's best downloadable songs to music fans through easy-to-use playlists. Playlist-To-Go is the next step in our strategy to create the best and most comprehensive offering of online music available anywhere." Josh Felser, General Manager of Spinner.com. said: "Playlist-to-Go lets consumers spend less time looking for great music and more time listening to it. Our music staff does the work of finding the best songs out there and organizes them by genre, so that listeners can discover new artists and build their own customized collections of downloaded music. Adding Playlist-to-Go to our 120+ channels of streaming music broadcasts makes Spinner.com a full-service site that's a music lover's online dream." The1999 America Online/Roper Starch Cyberstudy, an annual survey of the attitudes and activities of online consumers, found that 61% of 18-24 year-olds online regularly or occasionally listen to music over the Internet. A companion study of online 9-17 year-olds found that more than three-quarters (76%) are interested in downloading music. Spinner has secured over 1400 tracks for use in Playlist-To-Go from partners, including: EMusic.com (Nasdaq: EMUS), K-tel (Nasdaq: KTEL), Razor and Tie, Mammoth, Relapse, Knit Media, DreamWorks Records, FASTMUSIC, and Mixx Entertainment's TOKYOPOP.com.
