New York, NY – AOL today opened the doors to its new corporate headquarters in New York City at 770 Broadway. The offices will house more than 300 AOL employees from Corporate and Programming, initially occupying two floors of the building. AOL's New York-based Platform-A advertising staff will move to the new headquarters location in future phases.
The headquarters building was originally home to the Wanamaker department store. The building was designed in 1903 by Daniel Burnham, whose other buildings include Flatiron Building on New York's 5th Avenue and Union Station in Washington, D.C.
Architectural work for the AOL office space was done by Mancini-Duffy, http://manciniduffy.com/. In addition to state-of-the-art workspaces, the new office features an open design with several formal and informal meeting areas to encourage collaboration, as well as a 46' by 36' studio, which will open this summer.
"The success of the AOL headquarters project is due to the great collaboration of our design and LEED service teams with AOL's project team and Time Warner's management team,"said Michael Bonomo, Mancini Duffy's Project Designer. "They had a clear vision of what they wanted to accomplish and translating and realizing that strategy was very rewarding to us professionally."
When renovating the office space, AOL's engineers and designers took the opportunity to make the new workspace more environmentally friendly, and plan to have the space certified by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, for the sustainable design, construction and operation of high performance green office space. Last year, AOL submitted its new childcare facility on its Dulles, Va., campus for LEED certification.
"The move to 770 Broadway gave us a great opportunity not only to create a more modern, more collaborative workplace, but to do so in a way that minimizes our impact on the environment,"said Alan Nielsen, Vice President, Corporate Services at AOL. "We're delighted with the new space, and we're excited to have our headquarters located in New York's media and advertising center."
