Time4 Media’s Mountain Sports Division Unveils SkiNet.com
September 07, 2006

Time4 Media’s Mountain Sports division, the leading snow sports media company in the world, today announced the rebirth of SkiNet.com, a comprehensive snow sports supersite powered by the content of SKI and Skiing, the #1 and #2 magazines in the category, and Warren Miller Entertainment, producers of the famed annual film and the largest action sports movie tour on the planet.

As the singular website featuring snow sports information and inspiration from these leading brands, SkiNet will serve as the ultimate interactive source for ski content and services and the online home of the passionate winter sports enthusiast community.

“This consolidated site makes it easy for a broad audience of skiers to get the information they want, when and how they want it,” said Group Publisher Jamie Pentz. “Whether you’re the thrill-seeking Skiing reader, the family and lifestyle-focused SKI reader, a devotee of action video or a newcomer to the sport, SkiNet’s got you covered.”

Todd Unger, Senior Vice President of Time4’s Digital team adds that “SkiNet is built around consumer needs and everything they’ve taught us over the past few years about how they use the Web and what they’re looking for online – community, useful tools, video and photo galleries, and information they can trust.”

SkiNet seeks to fill a void in the winter sports space. There are roughly 12 million skiers and snowboarders in the US over the age of 12. According to a 2005 MRI study, 9 out of 10 went online in the past 30 days, and they are twice as likely as the average adult to have made a purchase online.

SkiNet content includes sections built around the main interests of skiers and subscribers:

SkiNet.com originally launched in the early 1990’s as the comprehensive site for SKI and Skiing magazine content. Independent branded sites for SKI and Skiing were first introduced in the late 1990’s, and with a renewed focus on the differentiation of the #1 and #2 print brands in ski media and the different niche audiences they serve, SkiNet.com went dormant in 2003. Warrenmiller.com was officially launched in 2005 as a portal for annual Warren Miller film tour information and 600 video clips divided by genre from past Warren Miller movies.

Traffic across the three sites, SkiMag.com, SkiingMag.com, and WarrenMiller.com, has already seen dramatic increases this year; unique visitors were up 86% for a total of more than 1 million from January through March, 2006 vs. 2005, and page views were up 81% for a total of roughly 6 million. Internet advertising revenue for the period grew more than 18%.
