Seann William Scott to Star in The Optimist for New Line Cinema January 12, 2005 |

LOS ANGELES – New Line Cinema has acquired the feature comedy pitch The Optimist with Seann William Scott (The Rundown) attached to star in and produce the film.
The Optimist centers on a man who is born without the gene for unhappiness. His perspective changes when he falls in love with a cynical reporter. Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein (The Simpsons) will write the film’s script.
The Optimist is being produced by Scott along with his partner Graham Larson for their Identity Films banner. New Line’s Production Executive VP Kent Alterman, VP Keith Goldberg, and VP Michelle Weiss are overseeing the project for the studio.
Scott has previously appeared in such hit comedies as the American Pie franchise, Road Trip, and Dude, Where’s My Car?. He is currently shooting The Dukes of Hazzard in which he will star as Bo Duke.
