CNN Launches Branding Campaign: ‘Power of CNN Under Your Command’

CNN is launching a new, irreverent promotional campaign using top CNN on-air personalities to promote the power of the CNN brand across multiple platforms. Marquee journalists such as Christiane Amanpour, Wolf Blitzer and Lou Dobbs are featured in the commercials, which highlight CNN's enormous reach and accessibility on TV and the Web.

The wry commercials underscore CNN.com’s unique ability to put the full resources of The CNN News Group at its users’ command. The ads showcase CNN anchors and correspondents, including Christiane Amanpour, Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper, Lou Dobbs, Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Paula Zahn.

“The new ad campaign allows us to promote another aspect of our brand that differentiates CNN in the marketplace,” said Scot Safon, senior vice president of marketing and promotions for the CNN News Group. “This is a fun, clever illustration of how millions of people actually interact with CNN on a daily basis.

“Millions of people experience our brand on many platforms throughout the day,” Safon said. “This particular campaign illustrates how people experience CNN at work. Though the campaign takes an irreverent, humorous look at that experience, the campaign is based on how consumers actually interact with our brand.”

David Payne, senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com, said, “With the election season behind us, now is the perfect time for us to build on the site’s tremendous success. The election showed the power of the combination of CNN.com and CNN. With this ad campaign, we are now showing our personality and having fun with the way our millions of users interact with us daily.”

CNN.com’s strong traffic on Election Day and the day after shows the site’s immense popularity with online visitors. From 4 p.m. Nov. 2 until 4 p.m. Nov. 3, the site received an all-time high of about 650 million page views.

As the first Internet site dedicated to 24-hour news coverage, CNN.com ranks as the leading online news and information site, attracting an average of 23 million unique users each month. Launched in 1995, CNN.com draws from the worldwide resources of the CNN News Group to provide relevant, up-to-the minute news and information. Brendan Gibbons of Hungry Man Productions wrote and directed the ads. A long-time, dedicated user of CNN.com, Gibbons brought forth a unique understanding of how visitors navigate online news and information.
