Turner Broadcasting Systems, Inc. and Regal Entertainment Group's Media Subsidiary Form Programming and Marketing Alliance Programming and Marketing Alliance Provides TBS, Inc. Original Content to Regal CineMedia's National In-theatre Digital Content Network Atlanta, GA and Denver, CO - Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. ("TBS, Inc."), an AOL Time Warner Company (NYSE: AOL) and Regal CineMedia Corporation ("RCM"), the media subsidiary of Regal Entertainment Group ("REG", NYSE:RGC), the largest theatre operator in the world, have entered into a multi-year programming and marketing alliance across REG's theatres, including a programming development agreement for RCM's in-theatre digital network. The announcement was made today by Bradley J. Siegel, president of general entertainment networks for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., and Cliff Marks, RCM's president, marketing and sales. RCM is currently deploying a state-of-the-art national Digital Content Network ("DCN") for the delivery of digital video content, including entertainment, sports and educational programming, as well as on-screen and in-lobby marketing and advertising products. The DCN is being installed in approximately 375 theatres covering 19 of the top 20 and 43 of the top 52 markets through the end of 2003. The Regal CineMedia DCN is expected to be the world's largest such network with digital distribution capabilities on a targeted basis to over 4,400 theatre screens and 1,400 42" high-resolution plasma screens in the theatre lobbies. The DCN is expected to launch during the first quarter of 2003 in 12 markets (nine of the top 10), with other markets added throughout 2003. The new DCN will feature select original programming content from TBS, Inc., along with programming from NBC and additional partners to be announced. Under the terms of the programming and marketing agreement, TBS, Inc. will create short-form entertainment programming to be presented on theatre screens prior to the feature presentation in REG's theatres (Regal Cinemas, United Artists Theatres and Edwards Theatres) that are part of the Regal CineMedia DCN. TBS, Inc. will turn to its popular entertainment properties, including Cartoon Network and Turner Network Television, for the content to be shown in REG's theatres. "The partnership gives our networks a national platform to market their programming," said Siegel. "This is a great opportunity for the networks under the TBS, Inc. banner to deliver content representative of their distinct brands to a broad audience of movie-goers." "Rather than the mix of local, static slide advertising currently being shown prior to feature films, Regal's theatres will be bringing movie-goers short-form programming delivered digitally from some of the most respected companies in entertainment," said Marks. "With the terrific programming provided by TBS, Inc. properties and our other content partners, we'll be offering movie-goers a significantly improved and enjoyable pre-show presentation." In addition to the development of original entertainment segments prior to its movie presentations, RCM is also pioneering other uses for its theatres. RCM recently utilized its network to simulcast an exclusive "virtual" movie premiere event in 13 communities for the opening of the feature film, "Maid in Manhattan," starring Jennifer Lopez. Additionally, a Korn rock concert from New York's Hammerstein Ballroom was simulcast in select theatres promoting the release of the band's new album, as well as "The Last DJ," opening concert in support of Tom Petty's latest release. In September 2002, the Company presented the CSU at UCLA college football game live from the Rose Bowl, captured and delivered in high-definition to theatre screens in Colorado and California. During 2003, many similar events are planned as RCM continues to identify new sources of revenue for REG theatres.
