Reporter, Former NYPD Blue Star Andrea Thompson Joins CNN Headline News Local television reporter and former NYPD Blue star Andrea Thompson will join CNN's Headline News as an anchor, Teya Ryan, executive vice president and managing editor of CNN Headline News, announced today. Thompson joins Headline News from KRQE-TV in Albuquerque, N.M., and will serve as anchor in the network's headquarters in Atlanta, beginning in late June.
"Andrea is a hard-working and thoughtful journalist who knows how to cover a broad range of stories, from breaking news to human interest," Ryan said. "Her excellent reporting skills have earned the respect of her colleagues, and we are pleased she is bringing those skills to the Headline News anchor team." In addition to her anchor duties, Thompson will work across the CNN News Group as a national correspondent, reporting on issues of the day. "This is an extraordinary opportunity," Thompson said. "CNN is the standard by which I measure my work. I look forward to becoming a part of this incredible news organization." At KRQE, Thompson served as a general assignment correspondent covering stories across the state and in the region. During her time at KRQE, she has covered numerous stories that were also in the national headlines, including the Wen Ho Lee story from Los Alamos, N.M., the destructive wildfires from Pecos, N.M., and the arrest of the Texas seven fugitives from Colorado Springs, Colo. She also broke the national story of a 120-pound, 3-year-old child who was taken away from her parents by the state. Before KRQE, Thompson starred for four years on ABC's award-winning drama NYPD Blue as detective Jill Kirkendall. She has extensive film and television credits to her name, including roles on Bablylon 5 and Jag. Thompson is a native of Dayton, Ohio.
