AOL Members to Choose 'American of the Year' December 11, 1998
Dulles, VA, December 11, 1998 - America Online today announced the first-annual "American of the Year" Award. The "American of the Year" Award is an opportunity for AOL's 14 million members to recognize the individual they believe did the most in 1998 to make the United States a better country and improve the quality of our lives. Between now and December 18, AOL members can nominate individuals for the "American of the Year" Award by visiting Keyword: AMERICAN OF THE YEAR and entering the name of their nominee along with a brief endorsement of their candidate. Voting on the finalists will begin Monday, December 21 and will end on New Year's Eve. The winner of the "American of the Year" Award will be announced on January 4, 1999. "AOL is proud to provide its members with an opportunity to nominate, vote for and ultimately honor an extraordinary American," said Jonathan Sacks, Senior Vice President of Programming Operations at America Online. "Our heroes impact our lives every day by providing us with hope and inspiration and by showing us it is possible to set our sights high and achieve our goals. The 'American of the Year' Award is particularly meaningful because it's the voice of the people. AOL's 14 million members vote and decide who we should recognize with this award."
