CNN's New York Programs Unveil Dramatic New Look with 'The News Wall'
October 03, 2006

CNN's morning and prime-time newscasts will begin rolling out a dramatic new look with the launch of a massive state-of-the-art studio inside the Time Warner Center. The studio's centerpiece is "The News Wall," a big-screen showcase for the latest video and informational graphics pouring into CNN from around the nation, the world and the Web.

The public's first peek at The News Wall comes tonight at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. during Paula Zahn Now and Anderson Cooper 360º. The new studio becomes the permanent home for American Morning on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6 a.m. All times Eastern.

The News Wall is a larger, more powerful version of the video wall featured in The Situation Room – whose acclaimed design enables news programs to deliver multiple stories simultaneously, offers viewers multiple angles from the same story and pairs compelling video with bold graphics. The new studio also features a second video wall, as well as dozens of plasma screens, monitors and computer workstations to enable anchors and reporters to track breaking stories directly from the set as they develop.

"What sets CNN apart from all other networks is the sheer volume of news we take in and turn around to viewers every day," said Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. "Our new studio puts viewers smack in the middle of our newsgathering machine."

The debut of the new studio in New York completes a trifecta of innovative set design and news presentation for CNN/U.S., which began in August 2005 with the launch of The Situation Room. This summer, the network unveiled its new CNN Weather Center, which utilizes an extensive computer network as well as the most sophisticated video and point-and-click technology.

Taking advantage of the same technologies, the New York studio enables producers to create compelling news programs that can respond to breaking news in a matter of moments. The flexibility of the studio also enables the network to quickly transition from program to program or from scheduled newscasts to breaking news.

CNN Worldwide, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner Company, is one of the world's most respected and trusted sources for news and information. Its reach extends to nine cable and satellite television networks; one private place-based network; two radio networks; wireless devices around the world; four Web sites, including CNN.com, the first major news and information Web site; CNN Pipeline, an on-demand broadband video service; CNN Newsource, the world's most extensively syndicated news service; and partnerships for four television networks and one Web site.
