Time Warner Cable Continues Start Over Rollout Time Warner Cable today announced Start Over will become available to customers in Greensboro, NC, Rochester, NY and San Antonio, TX this summer. Start Over allows customers to jump to the beginning of a program in progress without any preplanning or in-home recording devices and is available to digital cable subscribers at no additional charge. Start Over was first launched to customers in South Carolina in November 2005. Within six months Start Over has become one of the most popular advanced services launched by Time Warner Cable. Seventy percent of those able to use Start Over are doing so about seven times each month and more than two-thirds use Start Over three times per week. "Customer satisfaction with Start Over is off the charts. Customers are watching Start Over-enabled shows twice as long as the cable industry average for linear programming," said Peter Stern, Time Warner Cable Executive Vice President for Product Management. "Start Over allows customers to turn live TV into video on demand so they can easily catch the entirety of any program to which they tune in late." Beginning next month, Time Warner Cable will deploy Start Over to customers in San Antonio, TX. Deployments will continue throughout the summer into Rochester, NY, followed by Greensboro, NC. The service will be systematically rolled out in each of these divisions, launching neighborhood by neighborhood until Start Over is available to all customers in the market. Time Warner Cable expects to launch Start Over to customers in another three to four divisions later this year. Start Over is enabled by a software upgrade to the existing video on demand (VOD) platform and to the installed base of digital set top boxes. The Start Over system instantaneously captures live television programming for immediate, on demand viewing. When tuning to a Start Over-enabled show in progress, customers are alerted to the feature through an on-screen prompt. By pressing "Select" on the remote control, the program is restarted from the beginning. Commercials will appear in the same sequence of the show as they would have in the initial telecast. Start Over-enabled programs can be restarted within the shows' telecast window. In South Carolina, Time Warner Cable has made the Start Over functionality available on select programming from 62 networks including the local NBC affiliate WIS, local WB affiliate WBHQ, USA, CNBC, Bravo, Sci-Fi, MSNBC, CNBC World, Sleuth, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike TV, Sundance, Fox News, Fox Sports World, Fox Sports Net South, Fox College Sports Atlantic, Fox College Sports Central, Fox College Sports Pacific, Fox Sports World Espanol, Speed Channel, Fuel, FX, National Geographic, Fox Movie Channel, CNN, tbs, TNT, Turner South, TCM, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, Lifetime Real Women, Food Network, HGTV, Fine Living, DIY, OLN, Golf Channel and G4. Time Warner Cable is working with these and other programmers for the upcoming Start Over launches. "With the average customer missing the first 15 minutes of a program, Start Over has already generated more than 25 million additional viewing minutes that otherwise would have never been seen by consumers," said Stern. "The popularity of Start Over is of great value to us, to our customers and to those programmers and advertisers that have signed on to it." About Time Warner Cable Contact Info: |
