Crowley Wins Murrow Award for Presidential Election Coverage
June 13, 2005

Candy Crowley, CNN’s senior political correspondent, has been awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in the “Writing – Television Networks” category for her comprehensive coverage throughout the 2004 election year.

“Candy consistently delivers incisive political news with an eloquence and precision that is rare among even the top professionals in our field,” said Jon Klein, president, CNN/U.S. “Her reporting and storytelling from the 2004 campaign trail was truly second to none, and we congratulate her on this great honor.”

RTNDA, the world’s largest professional organization devoted exclusively to electronic journalism, has honored outstanding achievements with its Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. This year’s awards will be presented at the RTNDA Awards Dinner on Oct. 17 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York.

The Murrow award marks the second prestigious accolade Crowley has earned this year for her political coverage. In April, Crowley, along with senior producers Michael Roselli and Sasha Johnson, were the recipients of the 2005 Joan S. Barone Award for excellence in journalism at the 61st Annual Radio & Television Correspondents’ Association dinner.

As senior political correspondent, Crowley covers a broad range of stories, including presidential, congressional and gubernatorial races and major legislative developments on Capitol Hill. Previously, Crowley was a congressional correspondent for the network. Crowley is also a rotating panelist on CNN’s On the Story, the network’s award-winning weekly current events program hosted by CNN’s female anchors and correspondents. She came to CNN from NBC News in 1987.

Crowley's assignments have taken her to all 50 states and around the world. She has covered the presidential campaigns of Pat Buchanan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, Bob Dole, Jesse Jackson, Edward Kennedy, John Kerry, Ronald Reagan, and Paul Tsongas, among others. Since the presidential nomination of Jimmy Carter, she has covered all but one of the national political conventions.

CNN, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner Company, is one of the world’s most respected and trusted sources for news and information. Its reach extends to 14 cable and satellite television networks; two private place-based networks; two radio networks; wireless devices around the world; six Web sites, including CNN.com, the first major news and information Web site; and CNN Newsource, the world’s most extensively syndicated news service.
