Research and Advocacy

Time Warner selectively funds research and information dissemination initiatives to help build public awareness about the achievement gap and barriers that are keeping young people from reaching their full potential. The following are research and advocacy initiatives currently supported by Time Warner.

GLSEN

GLSEN (Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network) is a national organization dedicated to ending bias and ensuring safe learning environments for all students regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Time Warner funding supports both the first phase of GLSEN’s Principal’s Perspective Study and the continuation of the organization’s Students of Color Organizing Retreat.

Harvard University – Achievement Gap Initiative (AGI)

The mission of the Harvard AGI is to help raise achievement for all children while narrowing racial, ethnic and socio-economic gaps. Working with scholars nationwide, the AGI aims to serve a variety of audiences including policy makers, educators, researchers and parents, by producing and disseminating research and distilling its implications for raising achievement levels and closing achievement gaps. The Harvard AGI also hosts national conferences and public forums throughout the U.S. to raise the visibility of this issue. These meetings include corporate leaders, policymakers, researchers, and other nonprofit organizations.

Public Education Network (PEN)

PEN is a national association of local education funds and individuals working to advance public school reform in low-income communities across our country. PEN has received a grant from Time Warner to develop a national public education campaign to engage Americans in ensuring high-quality public education for every child.
