Landmark Status
I look forward to going to work in the morning. I love that the Time & Life Building is located in the heart of Midtown, with the subway station in the concourse below the building. The building itself is always so bright and clean and even in the morning, everyone is full of energy. I love being able to grab a new magazine on the way up to my office—it reminds me how cool it is to be part of the print world.
My floor is also a great place to be. My workspace is clean and new, and open to the rest of the floor in a way that allows me to communicate easily with my coworkers. I have all the resources and tools I need to get my job done, at my fingertips—from office supplies to research to the travel department. The cafeteria is also a real bonus—with a great selection and prices.
In my role, I support the client marketing managers and directors in providing marketing materials and research to the outer sales offices (Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas) to help them obtain new and incremental business. I primarily work on RFPs and participate in brainstorms to help develop integrated platform ideas for advertising clients. I also analyze research that I request from CMI to help illustrate SI’s effectiveness in reaching a given target and its unique relationship with readers.
Value of Growth
Beyond my training in magazine publishing sales and marketing, I have learned what it means to be part of great company and how that impacts me on both a professional and personal level. Professionally, the resources, the environment and the mentorship have inspired me to grow at Sports Illustrated, but perhaps more importantly, they have helped provide me with a vision beyond the next step. I can see where I might be in ten years and I can see it happening at Time Inc. I also see the value of the Time Inc. pedigree and know that it will serve me outside the company as well.
The opportunity for promotion within your division or across divisions is something that is not only supported, but is encouraged here. As an example, I recently moved to the SI New York office from the SI San Francisco sales office. I was overwhelmed by the warm welcome I received. I had worked with many of my new coworkers over the phone and email, but had never met them in person. From the moment I arrived, they were incredibly generous and solicitous, making me feel right at home in a city that was very new to me. It made my transition to NY very smooth.
Additionally, working at TW has illustrated that when you feel your company is invested in your well-being, providing you with growth opportunities and benefits, it strengthens your investment in the company and your work. It feels good to be a part of something you believe in. On a personal level, all of this helps to maintain the mythical, elusive work-life balance, because you feel supported in that quest. Time Inc. values its employees and strives to help retain talent by providing employees with new challenges. This means that you will frequently come across Time Inc. “lifers,” which tells you something about the employees’ commitment to this company and its investment in them as well.
