![]() Warner Bros. stands at the forefront of the entertainment industry, with businesses ranging from feature film, TV and home entertainment production and worldwide distribution to home video, digital distribution, animation, comic books, licensing, international cinemas and broadcasting. In 2009, Warner Bros.' movies grossed $4.01 billion in worldwide receipts, breaking the industry global box-office record of $3.66 billion that Warner Bros.' films set in 2007. The 2009 domestic box-office gross for Warner Bros.' movies was $2.13 billion, surpassing the industry domestic box-office record of $1.79 billion set by the studio's films in 2008. Internationally, Warner Bros.' films grossed $1.88 billion at the box office in 2009-the ninth consecutive billion-dollar-plus year for the studio's films at both the domestic and international box office. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince generated $934 million at the global box office, making it the second-highest grossing film of 2009. Warner Bros. had six of its films gross over $100 million at the domestic box office in 2009, including such hits as The Hangover and The Blind Side. The worldwide success of Warner Bros.' Sherlock Holmes carried over into 2010 when the film crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office. Other highlights of the studio's 2010 feature film slate include Valentine's Day, Clash of the Titans, Sex and the City 2, Inception, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Due Date, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part I and Yogi Bear. The Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) is responsible for the entire Warner Bros. portfolio of television businesses, including worldwide production, distribution and broadcasting. WBTVG continues to develop and foster the relationships with A-list writers and directors that have made it the #1 provider of broadcast TV programming for 18 of the past 23 years. For the 2009-2010 television season, WBTVG divisions produced more than 40 television series, from primetime shows for broadcast (including at least one for each of the five broadcast networks) and cable networks to first-run syndicated programs and animation. The studio's primetime series include The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, The Mentalist and The New Adventures of Old Christine for CBS; The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Supernatural and Smallville for The CW; Fringe for FOX; Chuck for NBC; The Bachelor and The Middle for ABC; and The Closer, Southland and Dark Blue for TNT. The studio's slate of upcoming series includes Shameless for Showtime, Memphis Beat and Rizzoli & Isles for TNT, Rubicon for AMC, Pretty Little Liars for ABC Family, Unnatural History for Cartoon Network and Childrens' Hospital for Adult Swim. Telepictures Productions–the creative force behind such syndicated series as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tyra Show and TMZ–produces eight first-run series for syndication as well as the late-night talk show Lopez Tonight for TBS. Warner Bros. Animation produces Batman: The Brave and the Bold and four upcoming series for Cartoon Network: The Looney Tunes Show, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, MAD and Young Justice. WBTVG is also a partner with CBS in The CW Television Network. The rapidly evolving marketplace for digital distribution is one of Warner Bros. Entertainment's greatest strategic opportunities. As the ways consumers access, purchase and enjoy Warner Bros.' content continue to change, the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, which includes the home video, online, wireless, video games and digital distribution businesses, is focused on protecting and maximizing the value of the studio's content while fully harnessing the benefits of emerging technologies. In 2009, Warner Bros. Entertainment's success at the box office and on TV contributed to its #1 share in the domestic home video business for the ninth consecutive year. That included #1 in every category: standard-definition DVD, Blu-ray Disc, video-on-demand, and electronic sell-through. DC Entertainment, founded in September 2009, is charged with strategically integrating the DC Comics business, brand and characters deeply into Warner Bros. Entertainment and all its content and distribution businesses. DC Comics' characters appear in nearly 1,000 comic-book titles published and distributed globally each year as well as in live-action and animated series, direct-to-video releases, collectors' books, online entertainment, numerous licensing and marketing arrangements, graphic novels and feature films. The Dark Knight, the latest feature film in the revitalized Batman canon, became a worldwide phenomenon following its release in July 2008. ![]()
