Highlights

In 2009, Warner Bros. had a record-breaking worldwide box office of $4.01 billion. Warner Bros. Pictures set a Studio and industry record with $2.13 billion in domestic receipts, international box office reached $1.88 billion, and the year marked the ninth time Warner Bros. crossed the billion-dollar mark domestically and the 12th time internationally.

Highlights of the Studio’s 2010 feature film slate include “Valentine’s Day,” “Clash of the Titans,” “Sex and the City 2,” “Inception,” “Guardians of Ga’Hoole” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I.”

Warner Bros. Entertainment’s greatest strategic opportunity also represents one of its biggest challenges — the rapidly evolving environment of digital distribution. As the ways consumers access, purchase and enjoy Warner Bros.’ content continue to change, the Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, which includes the home video, online, wireless, video games and digital distribution businesses, is focused on protecting and maximizing the value of the Studio’s content, while fully harnessing the benefits of emerging technologies.

Because of the increased demand for original properties, Warner Bros. Entertainment produces various forms of content for multiple platforms: motion pictures, television, direct-to-DVD, video games and original digital titles for broadband and wireless.

In 2009, Warner Home Video dominated the U.S. sales categories as the number one company in a number of key categories, including total video sales (DVD and Blu-ray combined). Internationally, WHV is the number one studio with 14 percent world market share and a 21 percent world market share among all Hollywood studios.

The Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG) is responsible for the entire Warner Bros. portfolio of television businesses, including worldwide production, distribution and broadcasting. For the 2009–2010 season, WBTVG divisions are producing more than 40 television series, from primetime shows for broadcast and cable networks to first-run syndicated programs and animation. Warner Bros. Television and Warner Horizon Television combine to produce nearly 30 primetime shows, including at least one for each of the five broadcast networks – a feat unmatched by any other studio – as well as for cable networks such as TNT, FX, TV Land and more. The Studio’s signature primetime series include Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, The New Adventures of Old Christine and Cold Case for CBS; The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, Supernatural, One Tree Hill and Smallville for The CW; Fringe for FOX; Chuck for NBC; The Bachelor for ABC; The Closer, Southland and Dark Blue for TNT; and Nip/Tuck for FX, among others. New series include V, The Middle, the forgotten and the upcoming Romantically Challenged at ABC; Human Target and Past Life for FOX; Rubicon at AMC; and more. Telepictures Productions – the creative force behind syndicated series such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tyra Show and TMZ – produces eight first-run strips for syndication, as well as the new late-night cable talk show Lopez Tonight, for TBS, with Warner Bros. Animation producing both Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the upcoming Scooby-Doo – Mystery, Inc. for Cartoon Network. WBTVG is also a partner with CBS in The CW Television Network.

DC Entertainment’s characters appear in nearly 1,000 comic-book titles published and distributed globally each year, as well as in live-action and animated series, direct-to-video releases, collectors' books, online entertainment, numerous licensing and marketing arrangements, graphic novels and feature films. The Dark Knight, the latest entry in the revitalized Batman canon, has become a worldwide phenomenon since its release in July 2008.
