Adult Swim announces new Toonami series, ‘Uzumaki’

Anime fans will be thrilled to hear that Adult Swim is partnering with Production IG USA to launch an all-new (and pretty dark) anime series – “Uzumaki,” which will premiere on Toonami in 2020.

“Uzumaki” is a four-part miniseries based on the Shogakukan manga by legendary Japanese author and horror master Junji Ito. The story follows a high schooler, her boyfriend, and the citizens of the small, fictional Japanese town of Kurôzu-cho, which is cursed by madness spread through supernatural spiral shapes.

“As a huge fan of Junji Ito, I’m thrilled to be able to tackle one of his signature works, with a team of amazing creators who are all equally devoted to doing justice to this monumental work of horror manga,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vice president, on-air – Adult Swim.

In a revealing, behind-the-scenes event, the production team visited the Hanazono Shrine to receive blessings for the show and to ward off any potential curses. Check out the video below and experience their Shinto ceremony:
