Earlier this year, Time Warner Internal Audit held its 16th annual Global Conference at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank. Four days of internal training, networking and presentations from industry leaders and company executives kicked off with the presentation of the 2016 Chief Audit Executive (CAE) Award of Excellence, which is awarded annually to those whose contributions consistently exemplify the critical behaviors and skills necessary to provide world class internal audit services.

Breaking with tradition, this year Steve Fiedler, Time Warner’s senior vice president and chief audit executive, presented two CAE awards; Susan Mendez, administrative assistant in Internal Audit’s Burbank office, and Anthony Latino, associate director in the New York office, each received the honor.

Mendez—who has been with Time Warner for 15 years and with Internal Audit for 10—received the award for her contributions, most notably for her willingness to assume responsibilities beyond the traditional role of an administrative assistant. She has become an expert on Adobe InDesign, the department’s desktop publishing tool, and has used these skills to elevate all of the department’s reports and deliverables to the next level. To achieve this, Mendez has taken many advanced courses to broaden her knowledge of the software tool and has shared what she has learned with the other department administrative assistants. She has also started a certificate program in graphic design so she can offer additional creative suggestions for our reports.

“During my tenure with Internal Audit, the leadership group has made me feel valued and like a key member of the team,” said Mendez. “I feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to broaden my skills to include desktop publishing and graphic design and to contribute to our most important deliverables as a department. The department has truly set me up for success and I appreciate all the encouragement I have received.”

Latino—a member of the Internal Audit team for 14 years— received a quasi “lifetime achievement" CAE award for his outstanding commitment and contributions to the department.

“Anthony has been a virtual workhorse for the department taking on a wide variety of roles within the group including overseeing large portions of the New York internal audit plan, managing the department’s technology needs and all of our administrative needs as well,” said Fiedler. “Whatever we throw at Anthony, he willingly takes it on and does a great job.”

“Working in the Time Warner Internal Audit department has been very rewarding,” said Latino. “I have had the privilege of working on a great team, which has made the time seem to go by very quickly!  I have been so fortunate to get the opportunity to work on such challenging and diverse assignments over the years. It has truly kept my job interesting and fun.”

Other highlights of the Global Conference included HLN’s Michaela Pereira interviewing HBO executives Glen Whitehead, EVP, business, legal and production and Casey Bloys, president, programming, and presentations by senior executives including Craig Hunegs, president, business and strategy, Warner Bros.
