Time for a little music trivia: what band originally recorded the 1969 hit song “Sugar, Sugar”?

Answer: The Archies, a group of fictional teenage characters from the Archie Comics-inspired series, The Archie Show.

In case you haven't heard, Archie and friends are back in the acclaimed new series Riverdale on The CW.

So is a new, spiced up version of "Sugar, Sugar," performed by Josie and the Pussycats. Check out the song in the clip above featuring lead vocals from series star Ashleigh Murray (Josie), accompanied by the River Vixen cheerleading squad led by Cheryl Blossom (played by Madelaine Petsch).

If you missed last week's Riverdale premiere, you can stream it now on cwtv.com.  And don't forget to tune in for a new episode at 9 p.m. tonight on The CW.
