It was a Hard Knocks life for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences last week as the acclaimed series scored five Sports Emmy nominations, the highest total in its 10-season history.

Nominated for Outstanding Serialized Sports Documentary, the show joins Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel (4 nominations) among the top nominees for the 37th Annual Sports Emmy Awards, where HBO Sports racked up a total of 13 nominations. Over the years, the two series have made for an imposing offensive line on the awards circuit; Real Sports has won 28 Emmys in total, with Hard Knocks hauling in an impressive 12.

The 37th Sports Emmy Award winners will be announced May 10, 2016, in New York City at the Frederick P. Rose Hall in the Time Warner Center.

Hard Knocks will return to HBO on Tuesday, August 9, with an all-access look at the Los Angeles Rams’ quest to bring NFL football back to the City of Los Angeles. The last six teams featured on Hard Knocks have equaled or improved their win-loss record in the regular season, with two teams earning playoff berths immediately following their Hard Knocks season.

The series will focus on the day-to-day lives of players and coaches as they experience drills, instruction, meetings and the camaraderie of training camp while striving to prove they have what it takes to make the team and leave their mark on the NFL.
