Thirty-five years ago Ted Turner created the first 24-hour news channel in CNN. And just last week Mayor Kasim Reed and hundreds of others came together to celebrate the media mogul and his contributions to the city of Atlanta and the world of news.
A few blocks from CNN Center, Spring Street was renamed Ted Turner Drive during a ceremony attended by many Turner employees, including CEO and Chairman John Martin and CNN President Jeff Zucker.
"[Ted Turner] changed newsgathering forever," Mayor Reed said. "That’s why I’m excited today. I wish I could do so much more than just rename a street, but that’s all I can do."
Turner's daughter, Laura Turner Seydel, and grandson also spoke, among others.
