Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – based on the classic children's book by Roald Dahl and directed by Oscar®-winner Sam Mendes – has scored seven Olivier Award nominations, tying for the most nominations received. The awards, British theatre's most coveted, are presented annually by the Society of London Theatre.
Charlie received nominations in the following categories:
Best Actor in a Musical (Douglas Hodge as Willie Wonka)
Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Nigel Planer as Grandpa Joe)
Best Theatre Choreographer (Peter Darling)
White Light Award for Best Lighting Design (Paul Pyant)
Best Costume Designer (Mark Thompson)
Best Set Design (Mark Thompson)
The Olivier Awards will be presented at London's Royal Opera House April 13.
