Today DC Entertainment launched the second year of its WE CAN BE HEROES giving campaign, continuing our efforts to raise awareness and funds to fight the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa.

As President of DC Entertainment, I am proud we have the privilege and honor of leveraging the power of our corporate brand and iconic Justice League Super Heroes to make a positive impact and help those in need. The WE CAN BE HEROES initiative is the single largest philanthropic initiative in DC Entertainment and our parent company, Warner Bros.’, history.

When we launched the campaign a year ago, we committed to raising $2 million over the course of two years to aid in the drought and famine crisis in the Horn of Africa. I am delighted to report that we met and exceeded our goal in the first year, thanks to the kindness and generosity of fans, the creative community and employees. The funds raised helped change the lives of more than 5 million people through our humanitarian aid partners Save the Children, Mercy Corps and International Rescue Committee.

In 2013, we are adding a variety of engaging, innovative programs that give back to those who give. The first of many initiatives starts today, a crowdfunding program, hosted by Indiegogo, through which fans have access to a unique collection of exclusive experiences and collectibles.

The first wave of ‘perks’ is Batman-themed, and includes exclusive items such as signed books and lithographs, limited-edition t-shirts, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like admission to this summer’s DC Entertainment VIP Event at Comic-Con International: San Diego Comic-Con, the opportunity to be drawn into an upcoming graphic novel, and much more. Additional phases will follow, featuring other members of the Justice League such as Superman and Wonder Woman.

During the coming months, we will reveal even more fundraising elements, including an online auction of the Darkness & Light artwork, the unveiling and auction of the final Justice League-inspired KIA car, as well as exclusive offerings of digital bundles – all designed to harness the passion our fans have for the world’s greatest Super Heroes, while making a difference in the world.

You don’t need a super power to be a hero. One small act can make you a hero and a lot of small acts can save millions of lives. Please join the Justice League and DC Entertainment in our efforts. Please consider giving. Get something good. Do something great.
